Good Question: Here is Carolinas Mold Removal (CMR) of Greenville, Spartanburg and Asheville’s answer:
Problem: With mold showing up in many homes with crawl space foundations preventative measures are being considered more regularly.
Solution: An excellent method to prevent mold in a crawl space is to encapsulate it. That simply means that the crawl space is sealed from outside air by installing a vinyl liner and once that is done the air has the moisture continually removed via a commercial grade dehumidifier.
Recently CMR completed a crawl space encapsulation in Taylors, South Carolina. Take a look at the before and after pictures for condition:
Humidity level before the encapsulation was over 70% (anything over 55 promotes mold growth!)
Excess humidity and moisture caused mold growth and insulation failure!
Now take a look at the same crawl space encapsulated!!!
The floor liner is sealed. The insulation has moved to the exterior walls and moisture is prevented from entering the crawl space from the ground or outside vents. The dehumidifier is conditioning the crawl space air and the humidity after encapsulation is now 46%!! This will result in a cleaner air environment in the home and savings in heating and cooling costs!
Call CMR today to see how you can go from an ugly crawl to a clean, energy saving crawl space under your home.
